Surety or sureties may be required

A court or police officer may require a person before release on bail in criminal proceedings to provide a surety or sureties to secure his surrender to custody.
A court or police officer when considering a person's suitability to be a surety may have regard, among other matters, to his —
financial resources;
character and any previous convictions; and
proximity (of kinship, place of residence or otherwise) to the person for whom he is to be surety.
