False information to public officer

A person who gives to any person employed in the public service any information in the truth of which that person does not believe intending thereby to cause, or knowing it to be likely that that person will thereby cause such person employed in the public service —
to do or omit anything which such person employed in the public service ought not to do or omit if the true state of facts respecting which such information is given were known to that person; or
to use the lawful power of such person employed in the public service to the injury or annoyance of any person, commits an offence and is liable to a fine of four hundred dollars and to imprisonment for three years.
