Duty to promote innovation

62. The Office shall have a duty to promote innovation within the sectors for which it has responsibility with a view to contributing to national economic competitiveness and development, and in doing so it may —
through its policies actively facilitate the development and introduction of relevant innovative technologies into the national economy;
facilitate and adopt relevant programmes designed to prepare the current and future workforce to meet the needs of the society;
leverage the advances in technology in the regulated sectors to advance national policy initiatives to enhance work place productivity and quality of life;
design and implement programmes, including dedicated Universal Service funding mechanisms to achieve universal access to infrastructure and services in the sectors for which it has responsibility; and
take such other initiatives as it considers to be consistent with its mandate to contribute to national development and economic growth.
