A complainant may by notice in writing withdraw the complaint at any time, and the notice shall state the grounds on which the withdrawal is made.
Where the Ombudsman, the Unit or an investigatory body has already begun an investigation of a complaint, the Ombudsman, may —
if it is satisfied with the grounds on which the complaint is withdrawn, suspend or terminate the investigation of the complaint; or
if it considers it appropriate to so do, proceed with the investigation.
Where the Ombudsman accepts the withdrawal of a complaint and terminates the investigation, the Ombudsman, shall immediately notify the complainant and the police officer concerned.
Where the Ombudsman does not accept the withdrawal of a complaint, the Ombudsman shall state the reasons on which the investigation is proceeding.
