Validity of Cayman Islands Identification Card

A Cayman Islands Identification Card is valid if it —
is issued in compliance with this Act;
has not been modified or tampered with;
has not expired;
has not been rendered invalid in accordance with any section of this Act; and
is useable.
A Cayman Islands Identification Card shall be valid for a period specified in subsection (3) unless, before the expiry of that period, it is —
surrendered to the Registrar under section 16;
suspended under section 17;
cancelled under section 18; or
destroyed under section 20.
The period referred to in subsection (2) shall be no more than ten years or such other period as may be prescribed commencing on the date of issuance of the Cayman Islands Identification Card.
A Cayman Islands Identification Card may be renewed for such further periods as specified in subsection (3).
For the purposes of subsection (1), a Cayman Islands Identification Card is useable where —
it enables identification of the entries entered in the Cayman Islands Identification Card and can be used to authenticate the identity of the holder;
its features are functional; and
it is not tampered with or defective.
