Surveyors shall carry out the inspection and survey of ships as required by Regulations 6 to 10 of Chapter I of the Safety Convention or under this Act or in the regulations.
Renewal surveys on cargo ships specified in subsection (1) shall be carried out at intervals not greater than five years.
The survey and inspections of ships, so far as regards the enforcement of this Part, shall be carried out by surveyors appointed under section 414.
Notwithstanding subsection (1), the Chief Executive Officer may extend the period between the inspections required by regulation 10(a)(v) of Chapter I of the Safety Convention in exceptional circumstances.
Any extension in terms of subsection (4) shall be for the shortest period that is practicable.
