False declarations

58. (1) A person who, in the case of a declaration made in the presence of or produced to the Registrar of Shipping under this Part, or in a document or other evidence produced to the Registrar —
wilfully makes, assists in making or procures to be made a false statement concerning the title to or ownership of, or the interest existing in a ship, or a share in a ship; or
utters, produces, or makes use of a declaration or document containing any such false statement knowing the same to be false, Merchant Shipping Act, 2024 Section 59 c Act 1 of 2024 Page 55 commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of ten thousand dollars.
A person who wilfully makes a false declaration relating to —
the qualification of that person, of any other person or of any body corporate to own a Cayman Islands ship or any share in the ship; or
with respect to the entitlement of a ship to be registered, commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of fifteen thousand dollars, and the ship or share in the ship is subject to forfeiture under this Act to the extent of the interest in the ship of the declarant, and also, unless it is proved that the declaration was made without authority, of any person or body corporate on behalf of whom the declaration is made.
